Time To Talk
Recently, Last Saturday while in the commisary at Keesler, I ran into a classmate. I did not know that her husband was a retired Air Force. She and I were good friends in school. I talked to her a few minutes and found out we had a lot in common. She suggested that we meet and have lunch. I don't know if she meant it or not because in the past when I met some of my classmates, they didn't seem to want to chat, even a cousin of mine.
It should not have been no surprise to me. I simply haven't made the effort to keep in touch with them. To be honest, I find myself struggling to make time at all for family much less friends.
As I get older, I'm learning to invest in my friendships because
i'm beginning to realize how much I need them. With God's grace,
I will continue to get better at placing people above projects,
God is relational and created us to be in relationship with
Him and others. Friendships are vital to our spiritual, mental, and
emotional well-being. "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another"(Proverbs. 27:17) Both work and play can get in the way of maintaining those friendships. Sometimes we might just have to put work on hold to call that friend we haven't talked to in a while. On the other hand, a good chunk of our time may be absorbed in meaningless leisure, such as too much television or the Internet. In that case, we can choose activities that allow consversation and relationship building. We need our friendships; making time to invest in them wise.
Father, please give me wisdon in prioritizing my time. Help me make time for the friends in my life. Amen
Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. (Ecclesiates 4:9)
