PAUL’S DEFENSE BEFORE THE MOB CONT.
ACTS 22:8-9... AND I ANSWERED, WHO ART THOU, LORD? AND HE SAID UNTO ME, I AM JESUS OF NAZARETH, WHOM THOU PERSECUTEST. AND THEY THAT WERE WITH ME SAW INDEED THE LIGHT, AND WERE AFRAID; BUT THEY HEARD NOT THE VOICE OF HIM THAT SPAKE TO ME.
Paul said who are you, Lord? Jesus answered and said I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute. And the men that was with him saw the light but did not hear the voice of the one who was speaking to him.
ACTS 9:7...AND THE MEN WHICH JOURNEYED WITH HIM STOOD SPEECHLESS, HEARING A VOICE, BUT SEEING NO MAN.
This is not a contradiction at all. The men heard a voice—but they did not under-stand what the voice said nor did they know whose voice it was. They just heard a voice.
ACTS 22:10-15 ...AND I SAID, WHAT SHALL I DO, LORD? AND THE LORD SAID UNTO ME, ARISE, AND GO INTO DAMASCUS; AND THERE IT SHALL BE TOLD THEE OF ALL THINGS WHICH ARE APPOINTED FOR THEE TO DO. AND WHEN I COULD NOT SEE FOR THE GLORY OF THAT LIGHT, BEING LED BY THE HAND OF THEM THAT WERE WITH ME, I CAME INTO DAMASCUS. AND ONE ANANIAS, A DEVOUT MAN ACCORDING TO THE LAW, HAVING A GOOD RE PORT OF ALL THE JEWS WHICH DWELT THERE, CAME UNTO ME, AND STOOD, AND SAID UNTO ME. BROTHER SAUL, RECEIVE THY SIGHT. AND THE SAME HOUR I LOOKED UP UPON HIM. AND HE SAID, THE GOD OF OUR FATHERS HATH CHOSEN THEE, THAT THOU SHOULDEST KNOW HIS WILL, AND SEE THAT JUST ONE, AND SHOULDEST HEAR THE VOICE OF HIS MOUTH. FOR THOU SHALL BE HIS WITNESS UNTO ALL MEN OF WHAT THOU HAST SEEN AND HERD.
Paul ask, what shall I do, Lord? It would be great if every one would say what would you Lord have me to do. If they meant it. the Lord said to Paul to get up and go to Damascus, and there he would be told everything that God has determined for him to do. Paul was blind because of the bright light, and so his companions took him by the hand and led him into Damascus.
There was a man named Ananias, a religious man who obeyed the Law and was highly respected by all the Jews living in Damascus. He came to Paul, stood by Paul and said, brother Saul, See again. And that very moment Paul was able to see again. Ananias said to Paul, the God of our ancestors that chosen you to know his will, to see his righteous servant, and hear him speaking with his own voice. For you Paul will be a witness for God to tell all men what you have seen and heard.
You see Paul had been given a private interview with the Lord Jesus Christ.
ACTS 22:16-20...AND NOW WHY TARRIEST THOU? ARISE, AND BE BAPTIZED, AND WASH AWAY THOU SINS, CALLING ON THE NAME OF THE LORD. AND IT CAME TO PASS, THAT, WHEN I WAS COME AGAIN TO JERUSALEM, EVEN WHILE I PRAYED IN THE TEMPLE, I WAS IN A TRANCE. AND SAW HIM SAYING UNTO ME MAKE HASTE, AND GET THEE QUICKLY OUT OF JERUSALEM; FOR THEY WILL NOT RECEIVE THY TESTIMONY CONCERNING ME. AND I SAID, LORD, THEY KNOW THAT I IMPRISONED AND BEAT IN EVERY SYNAGOGUE THEM THAT BELIEVED ON THEE; AND WHEN THE BLOOD OF THOU MARTYR STEPHEN WAS SHED, I ALSO WAS STANDING BY, AND CONSENTING UNTO THIS DEATH, AND KEPT THE RAIMENT OF THEM THAT SLEW HIM.
Paul said why wait any longer. Get up and be baptized in water and be also baptized in the blood of Jesus Christ to swipe away your sins, by calling on the name of Jesus Christ.
Paul went back to Jerusalem and while he was praying in the temple he had a vision, in which he saw the Lord as he said to him, Hurry and leave Jerusalem quickly, because the people here will not accept your witness about the Lord. And Paul answered the Lord and said, they know very well that I went to the meeting houses and arrested and beat those who believe in the Lord. And Lord you witness when Stephen was put to death, I myself was there, approving of his murder and taking care of the coats of his murderers.
ACTS 22:21-22. AND HE SAID UNTO ME, DEPART; FOR I WILL SEND THEE FAR HENCE UNTO THE GENTILES. AND THEY GAVE HIM AUDIENCE UNTO THIS WORD, AND THEN LIFTED UP THEIR VOICES, AND SAID, AWAY WITH SUCH A FELLOW FROM THE EARTH FOR IT IS NOT FIT THAT HE SHOULD LIVE.
The Lord said to Paul, go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles. The people listen Paul until he said this; Away with him. Kill him. He’s not fit to live. Isn’t that just like the devil. As long as it was pleasing to them they were with him, but he said that the Lord told him to go to the Gentiles then they were against him.
ACTS 22:23-24...AND AS THEY CRIED OUT, AND CAST OFF THEIR CLOTHES, AND THREW DUST INTO THE AIR, THE CHIEF CAPTAIN COMMANDED HIM TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE CASTLE, AND BADE THAT HE SHOULD BE EXAMINED BY SCOURGING; THAT HE MIGHT KNOW WHEREFORE THEY CRIED SO AGAINST HIM.
The people were screaming and waving their clothes and throwing dust up in the air. Them the Roman commander ordered his men to take Paul into the fort, and told them to whip him to find out why the Jews were screaming like this against him.
When Paul changed over into the Hebrew tongue and spoke to the mob, the captain did not know what he said. The captain could under stand what Paul was saying so all he could do was to tell his men to take him into the castle.
