THE PLOT AGAINST PAUL
ACTS 23:12...AND WHEN IT WAS DAY, CERTAIN OF THE JEWS BANDED TOGETHER, AND BOUND THEMSELVES UNDER A CURSE, SAYING THAT THEY WOULD NEITHER EAT NOR DRINK TILL THEY HAD KILLED PAUL;
The Jews met together and made a plan. They took a vow that they would not eat or drink anything until they had killed Paul. I believe they got mighty thirsty and hungry before it was over. They were fighting against God when they were fighting against Paul.
ACTS 23:13-15...AND THEY WERE MORE THAN FORTY WHICH HAD MADE THIS CONSPIRACY. AND THEY CAME TO THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND ELDERS, AND SAID, WE HAVE BOUND OURSELVES UNDER A GREAT CURSE, THAT WE WILL EAT NOTHING UNTIL WE HAVE SLAIN PAUL;. NOW THEREFORE YE WITH THE COUNCIL SIGNIFY IN THE CHIEF CAPTAIN THAT HE BRING HIM DOWN UNTO YOU TO-MORROW, AS THOUGHT YE WOULD INQUIRE SOMETHING MORE PERFECTLY CONCERNING HIM; AND WE, OR EVER HE COME NEAR, ARE READY TO KILL HIM.
There were more than forty of them who planned the together. Then they went to the Chief priests and elders and said; we have taken a solemn vow together not to eat a thing until we kill Paul. Now then, you and the council send word to the Roman commander to bring Paul down to you, pretending that you want to get more accurate information about him. But we will be ready to kill him before he ever gets here. This was their plot to kill Paul. But God had a different plan for him.
ACTS 23:16-18....AND WHEN PAUL’S SISTER’S SON HEARD OF THE LYING IN WAIT, HE WENT AND ENTERED INTO THE CASTLE, AND TOLD PAUL. THEN PAUL CALLED ONE OF THE CENTURIONS UNTO HIM, AND SAID, BRING THIS YOUNG MAN UNTO THE CHIEF CAPTAIN; FOR HE HATH A CERTAIN THING TO TELL HIM. SO HE TOOK HIM, AND BROUGHT HIM TO THE CHIEF CAPTAIN, AND SAID, PAUL THE PRISONER CALLED ME UNTO HIM, AND PRAYED ME TO BRING THIS YOUNG MAN UNTO THEE, WHO HATH SOMETHING TO SAY UNTO THEE.
The son of Paul’s sister heard of the plot to kill Paul; so he went and entered the fort and told it to Paul. Then Paul called one of the officers and said to him, “Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.” The officer took him, led him to the commander and said, “the prisoner Paul called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, for he has something to say to you. Paul working
his right as a Roman citizen, which he had a perfect right to do.
ACTS 23:19-22...THEN THE CHIEF CAPTAIN TOOK HIM BY THE HAND, AND WENT WITH HIM ASIDE PRIVATELY, AND ASKED HIM, WHAT IS THAT THOU HAST TO TELL ME? AND HE SAID, THE JEWS HAVE AGREED TO DESIRE THEE THAT THOU WOULDEST BRING DOWN PAUL TO-MORROW INTO THE COUNCIL, AS THOUGHT THEY WOULD INQUIRE SOMEWHAT OF HIM MORE PERFECTLY. BUT DO NOT THOU YIELD UNTO THEM; FOR THERE LIE IN WAIT FOR HIM OF THEM MORE THAN FORTY MEN, WHICH HAVE BOUND THEMSELVES WITH AN OATH, THAT THEY WILL NEITHER EAT NOR DRINK TILL THEY HAVE KILLED HIM; AND NOW ARE THEY READY, LOOKING FOR A PROMISE FROM THEE. SO THE CHIEF CAPTAIN THEN LET THE YOUNG MAN DEPART, AND CHARGED HIM. SEE THOU TELL NO MAN THAT THOU HAST SHEWED THESE THINGS TO ME.
The commander took the young man by the hand, led him off by himself and asked him, “what do you have to tell me?” He told him that the Jews have agreed to ask you tomorrow to take Paul down to the council, pretending that the council wants to get more accurate information about him. He said to the commander, don’t listen to them, because there are more than forty men who will be hiding and waiting for him. They have all taken a vow not to eat or drink until they kill him. They are now ready to do it, and are waiting for your decision.
You see God has always got a plan to take care of our situations just like he did Paul. He always make a way to escape the trouble that we face if we are sold out to God. He is our leader, protector, and our guide.
God provides doctors, hospitals, and in Paul’s case he provided Paul’s sister’s son to tell the Commander.
