PAUL’S TESTIMONY BEFORE AGRIPPA-CONTINUE
ACTS 26:4...MY MANNER OF LIFE FROM M YOUTH, WHICH WAS AT THE FIRST AMONG MINE OWN NATION AT JERUSALEM, KNOW ALL THE JEWS;
All the Jews know how Paul have lived ever since he was young. They know that from the beginning how he had spent his whole life in his own country and in Jerusalem.
ACTS 26:5...WHICH KNEW ME FROM THE BEGINNING, IF THEY WOULD TESTIFY, THAT AFTER THE MOST STRICTEST SECT OF OUR RELIGION I LIVED A PHARISEE.
He said that from the beginning that they knew him if they were willing to testify.
That from the very first he had lived as a member of the strictest party of our Religion the Pharisees.
ACTS 26:6-8. AND NOW I STAND AND AM JUDGED FOR THE HOPE OF THE PROMISE MADE OF GOD UNTO OUR FATHERS; UNTO WHICH PROMISE OUR TWELVE TRIBES, INSTANTLY SERVING GOD DAY AND NIGHT, HOPE TO COME. FOR WHICH HOPE’S SAKE, KING AGRIPPA, I AM ACCUSED OF THE JEWS. WHY SHOULD IT BE THOUGHT A THING INCREDIBLE WITH YOU, THAT GOD SHOULD RAISE THE DEAD?
Paul said that he stood there to be tried because he hope in the promise that God made to their ancestors—the very promise that all twelve tribes of their people hope to receive, as they worship God day and night. It is because of this hope king Agrigga, that he was being accused by the Jews. Paul said, why do you Jews find it impossible to believe that God raises the dead?
ACTS 26:9-10... I VERILY THOUGHT WITH MYSELF, THAT I OUGHT TO DO MANY THINGS CONTRARY TO THE NAME OF JESUS OF NAZARETH. WHICH THING I ALSO DID IN JERUSALEM; AND MANY OF THE SAINTS DID I SHUT UP IN PRISON, HAVING RECEIVED AUTHORITY FROM THE CHIEF PRIESTS; AND WHEN THEY WERE PUT TO DEATH, I GAVE MY VOICE AGAINST THEM.
Paul said that he thought that he should do everything he could against the name of Jesus of Nazareth. That was what he did in Jerusalem. He received authority from the chief priests and put many of God’s people in prison; and when they were sentenced to death, he voted against them.
Acts 26:11...AND I PUNISHED THEM OFT IN EVERY SYNAGOGUE, AND COMPELLED THEM TO BLASPHEME; AND BEING EXCEEDINGLY MAD AGAINST THEM, I PERSECUTED THEM EVEN UNTO STRANGE CITIES.
Many times he had the Christians punished in all the Jewish meeting houses, and tried to make them deny their faith. He was furious with them and persecuted them.
