PREPARING FOR THE LANDING.
ACTS 27:33-34...AND WHILE THE DAY WAS COMING ON, PAUL BESOUGHT THEM ALL TO TAKE MEAT, SAYING, THIS DAY IS THE FOURTEENTH DAY THAT YE HAVE TARRIED AND CONTINUED FASTING, HAVING TAKEN NOTHING. WHEREFORE I PRAY YOU TO TAKE SOME MEAT; FOR THIS IS FOR YOUR HEALTH; FOR THERE SHALL NOT AN HAIR FALL FROM THE HEAD OF ANY OF YOU.
Day was about to come, and Paul begged them all to eat some food; he said, “You have been waiting for fourteen days now, and all this time you have not eaten a thing. I beg you, then, eat some food; you need it in order to survive. Not even a hair of our head will be lost.”
Fourteen days of fasting would weaken anybody. They all fasted even the pagans had fasted, because they were scared to death. Now they are near land, and they will need their strength to make it to shore.
In Christian work we need just good common, sanctified sense more than in any other area of our life. The Lord expects us to trust Him, but He expects us to use good common sense.
ACTS 27:35...AND WHEN HE HAD THUS SPOKEN, HE TOOK BREAD, AND GAVE THANKS TO GOD IN PRESENCE OF THEM ALL; AND WHEN HE HAD BROKE IT, HE BEGAN TO EAT.
Paul took some bread, gave thanks to God before them all, broke it, and a began to eat. There was another time back in the gospels when the Lord Jesus put his disciples into a boat one night and sent them across the sea. He told them to go to the other side if the sea. On the way over a storm arose on the sea. He sent them into a storm. He knew that he was sending them into the storm. I believe a lot of times that God sends us into storms of life. We can have God and be in the storm at the same time. He will be there to comfort us, should we be a child of God.
ACTS 27:36-37...THEN WERE THEY ALL OF GOOD CHEER, AND THEY ALSO TOOK SOME MEAT. AND WE WERE IN ALL IN THE SHIP TWO HUNDRED THREESCORE AND SIXTEEN SOULS.
They took courage, and every one of them also ate some food. There was a total of two hundred and seventy-six of them one board.
ACTS 27:38...AND WHEN THEY HAD EATEN ENOUGH, THEY LIGHTENED THE SHIP, AND CAST OUT THE WHEAT INTO THE SEA.
After everyone had eaten enough, they lightened the ship by throwing the wheat into the sea. They had already thrown all the cargo overboard.
ACTS 27:39-44...AND WHEN IT WAS DAY, THEY KNEW NOT THE LAND; BUT THEY DISCOVERED A CERTAIN CREEK WITH A SHORE, INTO THE WHICH THEY WERE MINDED, IF IT WERE POSSIBLE, TO THRUST IN THE SHIP. AND WHEN THEY HAD TAKEN UP THE ANCHORS, THEY COMMITTED THEMSELVES UNTO THE SEA, AND LOOSED THE RUDDER BANDS, AND HOISTED UP THE MAINSAIL TO THE WIND, AND MADE TOWARD SHORE. AND FALLING INTO A PLACE WHERE TWO SEAS MET, THEY RAN THE SHIP AGROUND; AND THE FOREPART STUCK FAST, AND REMAINED UNMOVEABLE, BUT THE HINDER PART WERE BROKEN WITH THE VIOLENCE OF THE WAVES. AND THE SOLDIERS’ COUNSEL WAS TO KILL THE PRISONERS, LEST ANY OF THEM SHOULD SWIM OUT, AND ESCAPE. BUT THE CENTURION, WILLING TO SAVE PAUL, KEPT THEM FROM THEIR PURPOSE; AND COMMANDED THAT THEY WHICH COULD SWIM SHOULD CAST THEMSELVES FIRST INTO THE SEA, AND GET TO LAND; AND THE REST, SOME ON BOARDS, AND SOME ON BROKEN PIECES OF THE SHIP. AND SO IT CAME TO PASS, THAT THEY ESCAPED ALL SAFE TO LAND.
When day came, the sailors did not recognize the coast, but they notice a bay with a beach and decided that, if possible, they would run the ship aground there. So they cut off the anchors and let them drop into the water, and at the same time untied the ropes that held the steering oars. Then they raised the sail at the front of the ship so that the wind would blow the ship forward, and headed for shore.
But the ship ran into a sandbank and went aground; the front part of the ship got stuck and could not move, while the back part was being broken to pieces by the violence of the waves. I see God planning for the safety of all on board.
The soldiers made a plan to kill all the prisoners, so that none of them would swim ashore and escape. But the army officer wanted to save Paul, so he stopped them from doing this. Instead, he ordered all the men who could swim to jump overboard first and swim ashore. The rest were to follow holding on to the planks or to some broken pieces of the ship. And this was how they all got safely ashore.
The landing was a plan of God to save each and everyone on board. God fulfilled his promise that Paul and all the 276 people on the ship would get to land safely.
God is a God that will do what He says He will do for His people. every day I thank God for the liberty to serve Him with all of my heart, and mind. We can depend on God in time we come into a storm. Whether it be from the weather of a personal, God is always there.
Blessings
Shepherd.
