THE VOYAGE CONTINUES
ACTS 28:11...AND AFTER THREE MONTHS WE DEPARTED IN A SHIP OF ALEXANDRIA, WHICH HAD WINTERED IN THE ISLE, WHOSE SIGN WAS CASTOR AND POLLUX.
After three months they sailed away on a ship from Alexandria, called “The twin Gods,” which had spent the winter in the island. I believe that during the three months Paul spent preaching the gospel. Castor and Pollux, signs were gods of the Romans.
ACTS 28:12-13..AND LANDING AT SYRACUSE, WE TARRIED THERE THREE DAYS. AND FROM THENCE WE FETCHED A COMPASS, AND CAME RHEGIUM; AND AFTER ONE DAY THE SOUTH WIND BLEW, AND WE CAME THE NEXT DAY TO PUTEOLI..
They arrived in the city of Syracuse and stayed there for three days. From there they sailed on and arrived in the city of Rhegium. The next day a wind began to blow from the south, and in two days they came to the town of Puteoli. They had to wait until the wind blew a certain way, so the ship would sail the right way. I would expect Paul used these three days to preach some more.
ACTS 28:14-15...WHERE WE FOUND BRETHREN, AND WERE DESIRED TO TARRY WITH THEM SEVEN DAYS; AND SO WE WENT TOWARD ROME. AND FROM THENCE, WHEN THE BRETHREN HEARD OF US, THEY CAME TO MEET US AS FAR AS APPII FORUM, AND THE THREE TAVERNS; WHOM WHEN PAUL SAW, HE THANKED GOD, AND TOOK COURAGE.
They found some believers there who asked them to stay with them a week. And so they came to Rome. The brothers in Rome heard about them and came as far as Market of Appius and three inns to meet them. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage. We see how important encouragement of Christians was to the apostle Paul. We find to day that people rather tare down than to build up.
But like Paul Christians need encouragement these days more than ever as we see the day approaching for Christ return.
