LUKE 21:1-6 THE WIDOW’S OFFERING
VERSES 1-2....AND HE LOOKED UP, AND SAW THE RICH MEN CASTING THEIR GIFTS INTO THE TREASURY. AND HE SAW ALSO A CERTAIN POOR WIDOW CASTING IN THITHER TWO MITES.
Jesus looked around and saw rich men dropping their offering in the Temple treasury and her also saw a very poor widow dropping in two little copper coins. This poor widow had very few ways if earning money in their time Judea and normally found life very difficult.
VERSES 3-4....AND HE SAID, OF A TRUTH I SAY UNTO YOU, THAT THIS POOR WIDOW HATH CAST IN MORE THAN THEY ALL; FOR ALL THESE HAVE OF THEIR ABUNDANCE CAST IN UNTO THE OFFERINGS OF GOD; BUT SHE OF HER PENURY HATH CAST IN ALL THE LIVING THAT SHE HAD.
Jesus said; I tell you that this poor widow has really put in more than all the others. For the others offered their gifts from what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, gave all she had to live on. Jesus shows that money value is not everything. It is not the value that counts but what they have left. She gave all she had, this is a real sacrifice.
JESUS SPEAKS OF THE DESTRUCTION OF THE TEMPLE.
VERSES 5-6...AND AS SOME SPAKE OF THE TEMPLE, HOW IT WAS ADORNED WITH GOODLY STONES AND GIFTS, HE SAID, AS FOR THESE THINGS WHICH YE BEHOLD, THE DAYS WILL COME, IN THE WHICH THERE SHALL NOT BE LEFT ONE STONE UPON ANOTHER, THAT SHALL NOT BE THROWN DOWN.
Some of them were talking about the Temple, how beautiful it looked with its fine stones and the gifts offered to God. But Jesus said, all this you see—the time will come when not a single stone here will be left in its place; every one will be thrown down.
