LUKE 22:14-23 THE LORD’S SUPPER
VERSES 14-16.....AND WHEN THE HOUR WAS COME, HE SAT DOWN, AND THE TWELVE APOSTLES WITH HIM. AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, WITH DESIRE I HAVE DESIRED TO EAT THIS PASSOVER WITH YOU BEFORE I SUFFER; FOR I SAY UNTO YOU, I WILL NOT ANY MORE EA T THEREOF, UNTIL IT BE FULFILLED IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
When the hour come, Jesus took his place at the table with the apostles. And he said to them; I have wanted so much to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will never eat it until it is given its real meaning in the kingdom of God. The hour means the time for the Passover. Jesus is saying here that He would not after this eat with them until they get home to the heavenly home.
VERSES 17-18 ...AND HE TOOK THE CUP, AND GAVE THANKS, AND SAID, TAKE THIS, AND DIVIDED IT AMONG YOURSELVES; FOR I SAY UNTO YOU, I WILL NOT DRINK OF THE FRUIT OF THE VINE, UNTIL THE KINGDOM OF GOD SHALL COME.
Then Jesus took the cup, gave thanks to God, and said, take this and share it among yourselves. For I tell you that I will never drink the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.
VERSE 19....AND HE TOOK BREAD, AND GAVE THANKS, AND BRAKE IT, AND GAVE UNTO THEM, SAYING THIS IS MY BODY WHICH IS GIVEN FOR YOU; THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.
Then he took the bread, gave thanks to God, broke it, and gave it to them, saying This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me. This statement should not be watered down as some do. This is pointing to calvary. The gift of him-self for our sins.
VERSE 20....LIKEWISE ALSO THE CUP AFTER SUPPER, SAYING, THIS CUP IS THE NEW TESTAMENT IN MY BLOOD, WHICH IS SHED FOR YOU.
Jesus gave them the cup, after the supper, saying, This cup is covenant sealed with the blood of Jesus which was poor out for you. Israel was in covenant relationship with God, but now there would be a new covenant brought about by Christ’s blood.
VERSES 21-23...BUT, BEHOLD, THE HAND OF HIM THAT BETRAYETH ME IS WITH ME ON THE TABLE. AND TRULY THE SON OF MAN GOETH, AS IT WAS DETERMINED; BUT WOE UNTO THAT MAN BY WHOM HE IS BE- TRAYED. AND THEY BEGAN TO ENQUIRE AMONG THEMSELVES, WHICH OF THEM IT WAS THAT SHOULD DO THIS THING.
Jesus said, the one who betrays me is here at the table with me. For the Son of Man will die as God has decided it; but how terrible for that man who betrays him. Then they began to ask among themselves which one of them it could be who was going to do this.
