LUKE 22:54-62 PETER DENIES JESUS
VERSES 54-55...THEN TOOK THEY HIM, AND LED HIM, AND BROUGHT HIM INTO THE HIGH PRIEST’S HOUSE, AND PETER FOLLOWED AFAR OFF; AND WHEN THEY HAD KINDLED A FIRE IN THE MIDST OF THE HALL, AND WERE SET DOWN TOGETHER, PETER SAT DOWN AMONG THEM.
They arrested Jesus and took him to the house of the High Priest; and Peter followed far behind. A fire had been built in the center of the courtyard, and Peter joined the ones who were sitting around it. The Sanhedrin court condemned to death Jesus. why. Because He claimed to be the Son of God. Why was Jesus condemned to death by Pilate? Because He claim to be king of the Jews.
VERSES 56-57....BUT A CERTAIN MAID BEHELD HIM AS HE SAT BY THE FIRE, AND EARNESTLY LOOKED UPON HIM, AND SAID, THIS MAN WAS ALSO WITH HIM. AND DENIED HIM, SAYING, WOMAN, I KNOW HIM NOT.
When one of the servant girls saw him sitting there at the fire, she looked straight at him and said, this man too was with him. But Peter denied it; woman, I don’t even know him. There was no reason why Peter said he did not know Jesus because there was no charges against him. Of course he was setting among the enemy of Jesus and he must have been fearful.
VERSE 58...AND AFTER A LITTLE WHILE ANOTHER SAW HIM, AND SAID, THOU ART ALSO OF THEM, AND PETER SAID, MAN, I AM NOT.
In a little while a man noticed Peter and said you are one if them, but Peter said, Man I am not. Peter was with the wrong crowd. Warming by the devil’s fire.
VERSE 59...AND ABOUT THE SPACE OF ONE HOUR AFTER ANOTHER CONFIDENTLY AFFIRMED, SAYING , OF A TRUTH THIS FELLOW ALSO WAS WITH HIM; FOR HE IS A GALILAEAN.
Some where around an hour a man insisted strongly; there isn’t any doubt that this man was with Jesus. This man insisted that Peter was with Jesus at times before this. They must have knew by his voice that he was a Galilean.
VERSES 60-62...AND PETER SAID, MAN, I KNOW NOT WHAT THOU SAYEST. AND IMMEDIATELY, WHILE HE YET SPAKE, THE thingy CREW.
AND THE LORD TURNED, AND LOOKED UPON PETER, AND PETER REMEMBERED THE WORD OF THE LORD, HOW HE HAD SAID UNTO HIM. BEFORE THE thingy CROW, THOU SHALT DENY ME THRICE. AND PETER WENT OUT AND WEPT BITTERLY.
Peter told the man I don’t know what you are talking about. and while he was still talking a rooster crowed. And Jesus turned around and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the Lord’s words, how he had said, before the rooster crows today, you will say three times that you do not know me. Jesus was in some place to where he could see Peter. Peter went out and wept bitterly.
