LUKE 23:26-31
JESUS NAILED TO THE CROSS.
VERSE 26...AND AS THEY LED HIM AWAY, THEY LAID HOLD UPON ONE SIMON, A CYRENIAN, COMING OUT OF THE COUNTRY, AND ON HIM THEY LAID THE CROSS, THAT HE MIGHT BEAR IT AFTER JESUS.
They took Jesus away. Jesus started the journey to Golgotha carrying his cross. He must have gotten weak. And on the way they met a man named Simon, from Cyrene, who was coming into the city from the country; they seized him, put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. It has been said that by him carrying the cross for Jesus, that by doing so he was won for Christ.
VERSE 27...AND THERE FOLLOWED HIM A GREAT COMPANY OF PEOPLE, AND OF WOMEN, WHICH ALSO BEWAILED AND LAMENTED HIM.
A large crowd of people followed him; among them were some women who were weeping and wailing for him. I believe that a large group of people were crying and weeping for their savior, and my savior also.
VERSE 28-29...BUT JESUS TURNING UNTO THEM SAID, DAUGHTERS OF JERUSALEM WEEP NOT FOR ME, BUT WEEP FOR YOURSELVES AND FOR YOUR CHILDREN. FOR BEHOLD, THE DAYS ARE COMING , IN THE WHICH THEY SHALL SAY, BLESSED ARE THE BARREN, AND THE WOMBS THAT NEVER BARE, AND THE PAPS WHICH NEVER GAVE SUCK.
Jesus turned to the women and said, women of Jerusalem. Don’t cry for me, but for yourselves and your children. He wants their repentance, not their sympathy. Jesus is not saying that they were wrong to mourn over him, but Jesus is thinking withe compassion for a doom city. For the days are coming when people will say, How lucky are the women who never had children, who never bare babies, who never nursed them. For in that day that is coming children will suffer grievously
and it would be better to have no family.
VERSE 30-31...THEN SHALL THEY BEGIN TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, FALL ON US; AND TO THE HILLS, COVER US. FOR IF THEY DO THESE THINGS IN A GREEN TREE, WHAT SHALL BE DONE IN THE DRY?
This will be the time when people will say to the mountains, fall on us. And to the hill hide us. For if such things as these are done when the wood is green, what will it be like when it is dry. People will cry out for death in order to escape the coming wrath. There will great wrath for those who done away with Jesus that have already died in their sins. What about the ones that still alive at that time, they will invite death because of the wrath of God. I want to be ready.
