CALL TO HOLY LIVING AND HOPE
I. LIVING HOPE
I PETER 1:3...BLESSED THE GOD AND FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, WHICH ACCORDING TO HIS ABUNDANT MERCY HATH BEGOTTEN US AGAIN UNTO A LIVELY HOPE BY THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST FROM THE DEAD.
Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of His great mercy, He gave us a new life by raising Jesus from the dead.
Because of this we are filled with a living hope. We should look forward to possess the rich blessings that God keeps for us that is His.
He keeps those rich blessings for us in heaven where they cannot decay or spoil or fade away. They are for us, who through faith are kept save by God’s power, as we wait for the salvation which is ready to be revealed at the end of time.
We should be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for us to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trials we suffer.
The purpose of this is to prove that our faith is genuine. You see even gold can be destroyed, in testing by fire. So our faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, that it may
endure.
We will receive praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed.
If we love him, although we have not seen Him; we believe in him, al-thought we do not see Him now, we rejoice with a great and glorious joy, which words cannot express, because we are obtaining the purpose of your faith, the salvation of our souls.
It was about this salvation that the prophets made careful search and investigation; they were the ones who prophesied the blessings that God could give us.
They tried to find out when the time would be and how it would come; for the Spirit of Christ in them pointed to this time in predicting the sufferings that Christ would have to endure, and the glory that would follow.
God revealed to these prophets that their work was not for their own benefit, but for ours. As they spoke about the truths which we have now heard.
The messengers of the good news who spoke by the power of the Holy Ghost sent from heaven, told us these truths. These are truths which even the angels would like to understand.
II. HOLY LIVING.
Let us have our minds ready for action. Let us keep alert and set our hope completely on the blessing which will be given us when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Be obedient to God, and do not allow our lives to be shaped by those desires that we had when we were still ignorant.
Let us be holy in all that we do, just as God who called us is holy. For the scripture says, “We must be holy, because Jesus is Holy.
We call him Father, when we pray to God, who judges all men alike, according to what each one has done; we must, therefore, spend the rest of our lives here on earth in reverence for him.
We know what was paid to set us free from the worthless manner of life we received from our ancestors. It was not something that loses its value, such as silver or gold.
We were set free by the costly sacrifice of Christ, who was like a lamb without defect or spot. Jesus had been chosen by God before the creation of the world, and was revealed in these last days for our sake.
Through him we believe in God, who raised him from death and gave him glory; and so our faith and hope are fixed on God.
Now that we have purified ourselves by obeying the truth, and have a sincere love for our fellow believers, love one another earnestly with all our hearts. For through the living and eternal word of God, we have been born again as the children of a parent who is immortal, not mortal.
As the scripture says, “All men are like wild grass, and all their glory is like its flower; the grass dies, and its flower falls off, but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
Let this be the good news from Heaven to us.
