TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS.
PHILIPPIANS 3:8...YET DOUBTLESS, AND I COUNT ALL THINGS BUT LOSS FOR THE EXCELLENCY OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST JESUS MY LORD; FOR WHOM I HAVE SUFFERED THE LOSS OF ALL, AND DO COUNT THEM BUT DUNG, THAT I MAY WIN CHRIST.
Paul told them the Lord may give the Philippines much joy. Watch out for thoughts who do evil. Paul told them that we are the ones who have received the true circumcision, for we worship God by His spirit, and rejoice in our life in Christ Jesus.
Paul said to them not to put their trust in eternal things. Paul said that he was of the tribe Benjamin, a pure-blooded Hebrew. He was so zealous that he persecuted the church.
Paul said that he as a man can be righteous by obeying the commands of the law, he was without fault. But he said those things he counted as profit I now reckon as loss, for Christ’s sake.
Paul said that those things were a loss for the sake of what is so much more valuable, the knowledge of Christ Jesus his Lord.
For God’s sake he would throw everything away; he consider it all as mere garbage, so that he might gain Christ.
Paul completely united with Christ. No longer was he self-righteous, the kind to be gained by obeying the law. He had the kind to be gained by obeying Christ. He put his faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God, and is based on faith.
Paul said all he wanted to know was to know Christ and feel the power of his resurrection; to share in his sufferings and become like him in his death, in the hope that he his would be raised form death to life.
All he wanted to do was to succeed in trying to become perfect. He wanted to keep trying to posses it. He said that Christ had already possessed him.
Paul said that his single purpose in life, is to forget what is behind him and do his best to reach what is ahead. So he was running toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God’s call through Christ Jesus to the life above.
All of us who are spiritually mature should have this same attitude. But I believe in our churches today some have a different attitude, God will make that clear to us. But let us go forward according to the same rules we have followed until now as Christians.
Paul said that he had set the right example for everyone of us to follow, so let us pay attention and follow it.
There are many whose lives make them enemies of Christ’s death on the cross. They will end up in hell if they don’t change. Their god is their bodily desires, they are proud of what they should be ashamed of, and they think only of things that belong to this world.
We as Christians are citizens of heaven, and we eagerly wait for our Savior to come from heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Christ will change our weak mortal bodies and make them like his own glorious body, using that power by which He is able to bring all things under his rule.
