ALIENATION FROM GOD
ROMANS 6:23...THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.
I. BROKEN FELLOWSHIP.
GEN. 3:8, 22-24.
The immediate consequence of Adam and Eve’s sin was being spiritually separated from God.
When the Lord came to fellowship with them after that had sinned, they hid them-selves from Him.
They were created to fellowship with Him and enjoy His presence, but their sin changed their ability to so.
All people have suffered the consequences of the disobedience of Adam and Eve. Only through the blood of His precious Son can they be restored to real communion with their Creator.
They were expelled from the Garden of Eden. And if we sin and don’t repent of it, we are expelled from the presences of God.
God knew that they might also eat of the tree of life and live forever.
To live in a sinful state forever is no paradise. To keep them from eating of the tree of life, they were vanished from the garden of Eden.
II. MISERABLE CONDITION OF FALLEN HUMANITY.
EPH. 2:2-3, 12; 4:18-19.
Another result of to the fall was the moral corruption of human nature.
The word of God shows us the corruption of human nature as a consequence of sin.
People who are not in right relationship with God are described as living by the world’s values and standards that are not from Scripture, but are opposed to it.. (Eph. 2:2).
Sinful humanity is also subject to Satan. Sinful people are regulated by the lusts of the flesh.
Their desires, feelings, and urges are centered on pleasing themselves.
Humans are by nature the children of wrath. All they can expect when they dieis God’s wrath to be poured out on them.
Paul pointed out that the Gentiles at that time had no hope because they were without Christ, outsiders to Israel, and not heirs of God’s promises. They did not have a personal relationship with God.
People outside of Christ, have no hope unless they come to Him. Through Christ is our only hope. Unbelieving people are in the dark spiritually. The hardness of their hearts keeps them from truly grasping the life God makes available to them.
The longer they reject the truth of the gospel, the more depraved they can become.
Unbelievers can cease to feel the pain of a troubled conscience as they continue in their sin. they give themselves over more and more to sin, indulging their sensuality.
If we truly accept the miserable condition of fallen humanity, we must accept and act on the following principles.....
First...being away from God is the spiritual condition of every unsaved person, not just a few really wicked people.
Second....people are blinded to the truth of the gospel apart from God’‘s gracious involvement in their lives.
Third....we need to reach out to them with the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. God loves them and wants them to know Him through the salvation Jesus provided.
