. LIVE AS GOD’S PEOPLE
I PETER 2:10...IN TIME PAST YOU WERE NOT A PEOPLE BUT YOU ARE NOW THE PEOPLE OF GOD; WHICH HAD NOT OBTAINED MERCY, BUT NOW HAVE OBTAINED MERCY. Christians glorify God by loving one another and trusting God’s Word. People can be identified both by who they are and who they are not . For instance, a man might say, I am a Democrat there by implying he is not a Republican. A woman might say she is a stay-at-home mom, indicating she does not have a salaried job. A man might say he is a southerner, which means he is not a northerner. Of course, any of those situations could change. The democrat could become so disenchanted with his party’s positions that he becomes a Republican; the woman could take a job in the workforce; and a Southerner could relocate to the North thought he still might claim to be a southerner at heart. The people to whom Peter was writing had undergone a transformation more critical than a political, vocational, or geographic change. At one point they had not been the people of God, rejecting His mercy; but now; having received His mercy they were His people. In reality, every other category of life is unimportant. The only status that carries weight both now and for eternity is whether or not we are the people of God.
