DO WE HAVE LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER
I JOHN 4:11..BELOVED, IF GOD SO LOVED US, WE OUGHT ALSO TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
I. GOD’S LOVE ENABLES HOLINESS.
I JOHN 1:4:10-18
In John’s first letter he wrote about holiness as it relates to a Christians relationship with other believers.
Then he made an application to all Christians. Since God so loved us—enough to send His Son to die for us–Christians should in turn love one another.
God’s love is the model for how Christians are to love each other.
We are to be willing to lay down our lives for one another...putting the needs of others ahead of our own desires, sacrificing ourselves for the betterment of fellow Christians.
In this kind of atmosphere, holiness becomes a key part of or living. We do not live for our-selves, driven by selfish motives that often lead to sin.. We live in consideration of others, and attitude that encourages holy living.
Loving each other brings about two great results. It shows the unseen God within us and expresses His love among us.
I JOHN 4:12...NO MAN HATH SEEN GOD AT ANY TIME. IF WE LOVE ONE ANOTHER, GOD DEWELLETH IN US, AND HIS LOVE IS PERFECTED IN US.
The kind of love John is writing about in this passage is more than emotion. It is rooted in a relationship with God.
The indwelling spirit is the evidence of that relationship.
God initiated that relationship by sending His son to be the Savior of the world.
Faith in what God has done through Christ established that relationship.
Because we know this God who is love, we are able to express godly love to others. We are dependent on God’s love for holy living.
God’s Word promises judgment to those who choose to live an ungodly lifestyle.
Living in God’s love takes away that fear and allows us to live Christlike in this world. This is te heart of living a holy life...living like Jesus is a world that has separated itself from Him;
When this life comes to an end, we can look forward to facing the God we love, not the judge who will condemn sinners.
II. LOVING ONE ANOTHER DISPLAYS GOD’S LOVE. I JOHN 19-21.
We owe out ability to love one another to God’s love for us. It does not begin with our desire to be loving people or from our efforts to be loving people.
A person who claims to be a Christian and yet does not love others is a liar. Without love, we deny His very presence in our lives.
We must take seriously God’s command to love one another. It is not an option we can choose to ignore. It is what God demands from everyone who love Him. Loving is a must in holy living.
