Hi Everyone -
It's been a little while since my last formal update, so I thought it was about time for another one.
Since I last emailed, Mom has declined quite a bit. She is at home & the hospice nurse visits 2x/week, the aide 2x/week & the social worker 1x/week. After a rough day today, I believe the nurse will be visiting 3x/week. Her name is Kathy. She is very kind & only has Mom & Dad's best interests at heart, which is the way it should be.
She isn't eating, only drinking water as anything put into her stomach causes pain & nausea. This includes her medication, so Kathy switched her to all IV (via her port from chemo) & liquid oral. Kathy believes this should help with her pain & give her more comfort.
Dad is in charge of her medication - both record keeping & administration. Mom always handled her medication & taught us all to do the same. But she is unable, so Dad is chief care giver & medicine administrator. Bek & I are there about 3x/week to help with meals, laundry & to visit with both of them.
Dad is hanging in there. I can't say much more than that. He is taking very good care of Mom, but that is literally a 24hour/day job any more between the medication, nausea, assistance getting in/out of bed. So..if you've been kind enough to give him a ring & he hasn't gotten back to you right away, please be patient. But know that he is thankful to be thought of.
Bek & I are hanging in there as well. It's been tough for each of us to run 2 households, but loving friends have helped us, too.
It's very difficult for us to see her like this, as I'm sure you can imagine. None of us want to see her suffering, but we don't want to loose her either.
Thank you for your continued prayers for Mom's comfort and for God's grace.
