~ Broken Pitchers~
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
I have just been reading some in the book of Judges about Gideon and the battle he had with only 300 men, plus God. This story is exciting, and yet to look at it through Gideon’s eyes it must have been scary. God ask him to fight with only 300 men against a great host of trained men. The odds were against Gideon, within himself he did not have a chance to win.
How very much like the Christian today! The pressures of life come on swift and strong, needing attention. Wickedness becomes more and more accepted, yet what can we do about it? In our own strength we can do nothing. But wait, there is hope. There is a way in which we can have victory like Gideon had. How? Notice in verse 20 of Judges 7th chapter, Gideon’s men blew their trumpets; they broke their pitchers; they held up their lamps and they shouted.
Let us proclaim the goodness of God far and wide, we have kept quite too long, it is time we did something. Let us break our pictures of selfishness, fleshly desires, and pride. God can use us only after we are broken.
The pictures that Gideon’s men held hid their lights, they had to be broken. If our pictures of self will and pride are still in one piece, they will hide our light. Only as we are broken, can we hold up the light of lights, Jesus our Savior. He is the only one that can light our candle and make it shine for God. Then and only then can we have the victory. I hope you understand what I have been saying, if you don’t let me know and I will try and explain it to you.
