16 MARTYRS OF JESUS CHRIST
REV. 6:9-11..AND WHEN HE HAD OPENED THE FIFTH SEAL, I SAW UNDER THE ALTAR THE SOULS OF THEM THAT WERE SLAIN FOR THE WORD OF GOD, AND FOR THE TESTIMONY WHICH THEY HELD;
AND THEY CRIED WITH A LOUD VOICE, SAYING, HOW LONG, O LORD, HOLY AND TRUE, DOST THOU NOT JUDGE AND AVENGE OUR BLOOD ON THEM, THAT DWELL ON THE EARTH?
AND WHITE ROBES WERE GIVEN UNTO EVERY ONE OF THEM; AND IT WAS SAID UNTO THEM, THAT THEY SHOULD REST YET FOR A LITTLE SEASON, UNTIL THEIR FELLOW-SERVANTS ALSO AND THEIR BRETHREN, THAT SHOULD BE KILLED AS THEY WERE, SHOULD BE FULFILLED. I may have touched on this in another lesson, but I think this will make it a little plainer for you.
The fifth seal opening reveals the tragic death of many saints, the tribulation saints, who will be converted during the first three and one half years of the tribulation. The saints will be slain because they reject the worship of the Anti Christ and his image. They will also be killed for the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ which they will embrace during the tribulation.
Many will overcome the Anti Christ, even though he will slay them, and will come up out of the great tribulation, having washed their robes in the Blood of the Lamb. (Rev. 7:9-17).
This group of saints are symbolized by the five foolish virgins who missed the rapture, and went out into the tribulation to buy oil for their lamps. The lukewarm church group, which will be cast into the great tribulation, will make up this overcoming multitude in part, but not as a whole; for many of the lukewarm will concede to the Anti Christ and the ecclesiastical harlot.
Daniel spoke of e Anti Christ speaking against the most High and killing the saints of the most High..(Dan. 7:25). The Anti Christ will blaspheme against God and the raptured saints who are in the mid-heaven and will make war against the saints who are upon the earth during the tribulation. He will overcome them–that is, he will kill them.. REV. 13:6-7..AND HE OPENED HIS MOUTH IN BLASPHEMY AGAINST GOD, TO BLASPHEME HIS NAME, AND HIS TABERNACLE, AND THEM THAT DWELL IN HEAVEN.
AND IT WAS GIVEN UNTO HIM TO MAKE WAR WITH THE SAINTS, AND TO OVERCOME THEM; AND POWER WAS GIVEN HIM OVER ALL KINDREDS, AND TONGUES, AND NATIONS.
The Saints will be killed for the same reason that John was banished to the isle of Patmos. John was accused for the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.. REV. 1:9...I JOHN, WHO ALSO AM YOUR BROTHER, AND COMPANION IN TRIBULATION, AND IN THE KINGDOM AND PATIENCE OF JESUS CHRIST, WAS IN THE ISLE THAT IS CALLED PATMOS, FOR THE WORD OF GOD, AND FOR THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST.
While on the isle of Patmos, John considered himself to be a companion of those who will suffer during the great tribulation. In the vision John actually witnessed the slaughter of the tribulation saints. Many of the saints will be killed by the sword of the red horse rider, while others will be beheaded because they will reject the image worship and the mark of he Antichrist. (See Rev. 2:9 above.).
REV. 20:4... AND I SAW THRONES, AND THEY SAT UPON THEM, AND JUDGMENT WAS GIVEN UNTO THEM; AND I SAW THE SOULS OF THEM THAT WERE BEHEADED FOR THE WITNESS OR JESUS, AND FOR THE WORD OF GOD, AND WHICH HAD NOT WORSHIPED THE BEAST, NEITHER HIS IMAGE, NEITHER HAD RECEIVED HIS MARK UPON THEIR FOREHEADS, OR IN THEIR HANDS; AND THEY LIVED AND REIGNED WITH CHRIST A THOUSAND YEARS.
This period of the great tribulation will depict the time of the dark ages when thousands of Christians were slain by the Roman emperors and the papal order of the Roman Catholic church. This same evil force could have a hand in the slaughter of the tribulation saints. The rapture saints will escape death. They will go in at the open door unto the marriage of the lamb. (Rev.3:7-13; Matt. 25:10).
The dark ages lasted for a period of twelve hundred years; but the tribulation will be for seven years–the final week of the seventy weeks, as viewed by the prophet. (Dan. 9:24-29).
We are now living in the hour of lull before the storm of tribulation. The church is awaiting the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to rapture the true Church. It is a serious time, the saints are at ease in Zion. Apparently the Church is silently watching for the deathly attack of the man of sin. Our hope of survival is anchored in our prayer life in Christ Jesus. WATCH YE THEREFORE, AND PRAY ALWAYS, THAT YE MAY BE ACCOUNTED WORTHY TO ESCAPE ALL THESE THINGS THAT SHALL COME TO PASS, AND TO STAND BEFORE THE SON OF MAN. LUKE 21:36.
